Volunteer on the Pacific Crest Trail
OUR PARTNERS
Our Pacific Crest Trail Volunteer program exists because of a unique co-sponsorship agreement among the Northwest Service Academy (NWSA), the Pacific Crest Trail Association (PCTA) and the United States Forest Service (USFS). Each summer and fall, NWSA provides seven-member teams of AmeriCorps volunteers who work on every project (community volunteers sign up to join the team on the project of their choice). PCTA trail managers, volunteer leaders, and agency professionals provide training and technical expertise to the AmeriCorps team. Together, NWSA and PCTA plan and organize each project and recruit and coordinate volunteers.
Pacific Crest Trail Association
The Pacific Trail Association (PCTA) was formed in 1977 as a natural outgrowth and merger of many smaller organizations dating back to the 1930s, all of which advocated and worked diligently to create one continuous scenic trail along the crest of the major mountain ranges of the Pacific rim from Mexico to Canada. It is a non-profit membership agency whose mission is to protect, preserve and promote the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail so as to reflect its world-class significance, for the enjoyment, education and adventure of hikers and equestrians. The association strives to achieve this mission by promoting the PCT as a unique educational and recreational treasure and one of the finest trails anywhere in the world.
Other Agencies – National Forests and Bureau of Land Management
The Pacific Crest Trail spans 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada through three western states: California, Oregon and Washington. We maintain close partnerships with the numerous agencies that have jurisdiction over the PCT within their region. We rely on the expert staff of the US Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and other federal and state agencies to provide guidance and assistance with the trail work projects being done in their areas.
